THE TEARS OF A KING — AN OLFACTORY JOURNEY TO AL-ANDALUS

January 2nd, 1492. Muhammad XII — known to history as Boabdil — surrenders the keys of Granada, the last Moorish kingdom in Spain, to the Catholic Monarchs. As he rides away from the Alhambra for the last time, he stops at a mountain pass and looks back at the palace he will never see again. And there, according to legend, he weeps.

His mother, standing beside him, says: "You weep like a woman for what you could not defend as a man."

That mountain pass is still called El Suspiro del Moro — The Moor's Sigh.

Lágrimas de Boabdil — The Tears of Boabdil — is a collaboration between master perfumer Daniel Josier and writer Javier Caballero, created to answer an impossible question: what did the Alhambra smell like? Is it possible to capture the feeling of a defeated king in a single olfactory moment? Can a fragrance carry the weight of an entire civilization's final breath?

Each drop of this Parfum is the answer. An olfactory narrative — a tribute to a lost history and the emotional legacy that endures, centuries later, in every corner of the Alhambra.

THE SCENT

Top Notes — Bergamot · Cardamom · Water Accord The opening evokes the exuberant gardens of the Alhambra in full bloom — the sound of fountains, the shimmer of water channels running through the Generalife, the exotic spices of the Arab souks of Granada drifting through the air. Bergamot delivers a bright, citrusy freshness that recalls the orange groves of Andalusia. Cardamom adds a warm, aromatic spice — the scent of the spice merchants in the old Moorish quarter. The water accord captures the most distinctive characteristic of the Alhambra itself: the omnipresence of water, cool and crystalline, running through every courtyard and garden.

Heart Notes — Frankincense · Lavender · Vetiver The heart represents the nobility and grandeur of King Boabdil. Frankincense rises with a sacred, resinous solemnity — the incense of the mosques, the rituals, the prayers of a civilization at its height. Lavender adds a cool, aromatic dignity alongside it — the lavender fields of the Andalusian countryside that surrounded the kingdom. Vetiver grounds the heart with an earthy, smoky depth that speaks of roots, of soil, of a connection to a land that is about to be lost forever. A heart of quiet magnificence.

Base Notes — Vanilla · Cedarwood · Sandalwood The base describes resignation — the peace and acceptance that comes after great adversity. Vanilla arrives with a soft, warm sweetness that feels like comfort after sorrow — the amber-like warmth of a life that, despite its ending, was extraordinary. Cedarwood adds a dry, slightly resinous woodiness — the wood of the Alhambra's ceilings, carved and painted with geometric patterns of incomparable beauty. Sandalwood brings a creamy, skin-close warmth that lingers for hours — the final echo of a civilization that changed the world and left its tears in the mountain pass of El Suspiro del Moro.
