Vanilla is one of the most famous and appreciated olfactory notes, with its sweet, welcoming, comforting and “biscuit” scent. The smell of vanilla is made up of different olfactory facets, the main ones being vanillin and piperonal (heliotropin). These two components make this ingredient so important in aromatherapy: Heliotropin has a pleasant and relaxing aroma and the reason why we love vanillin is because it is the first smell we smell as children, even before we are born.
