CLOSE YOUR EYES. AND THEN YOU SEE.

What a fairground of lights life is. Lights that make me close my eyes — they are too hard to bear. If I close my eyes I feel a shade of smiles. I shiver and my heart is swept away. Life gets distracted. What a picture of white loneliness. What a mask of tears and amusing scents.

You fear what you cannot identify, even when it is something familiar. You feel anxious not to recognize the dance of an ancient face. Dance, play, deceive. A friendly smile. A discordant note. A far echo of mud and guts.

Close your eyes — because in the dark you can see. Your thoughts become closer and deeper. And that face which distorts mine is back. Not everything is as it seems.

Chiudi gli Occhi e Poi Vedi — launched in 2024 — is the 13th and most recent fragrance in Filippo Sorcinelli's monumental UNUM collection, and the final chapter of his Fear Trilogy, which began with But Not Today in 2018 and continued with Né il Giorno Né l'Ora in 2023. The subject of this final chapter: coulrophobia — the fear of clowns.

Inspired by Pennywise, the iconic evil clown of Stephen King's "It" — a figure that has terrorized generations of readers and viewers — Chiudi gli Occhi e Poi Vedi explores the deepest nature of that fear: the terror of the familiar made strange, the anxiety of not recognizing something that once brought comfort. Like all great art about fear, it is also — paradoxically — deeply fascinating. Reviewers describe it as But Not Today's greener, fruitier sibling — slightly more approachable, equally arresting, and still very much not for the faint of heart.

THE SCENT

Top Notes — Lemon · Bergamot · Lavender · Strawberry The opening is an adrenaline rush of contrasts — bright, sparkling citrus colliding immediately with something unexpected and slightly unsettling. Lemon and bergamot deliver a vivid, zesty brightness. Lavender adds a cool, aromatic calm — but here the lavender feels spicy and slightly tense rather than soothing. Then strawberry appears — not the sweet, innocent strawberry of desserts, but a riper, more complex version that reviewers describe as "far from its usual sweetness," releasing a subdued and intriguing light similar to a flickering flame in darkness. The opening rushes through multiple points of change — like the beginning of something that cannot be fully controlled.

Heart Notes — Artemisia · Petitgrain · Mace · Patchouli · Clary Sage The heart is where the fragrance settles into its most distinctive and unsettling character. Artemisia — wormwood, the herb of absinthe — adds a cool, camphoraceous bitterness that feels simultaneously ancient and alien. Clary sage brings an aromatic, tobacco-like smokiness. Petitgrain introduces a crisp, woody-citrus freshness. Mace adds a warm, slightly medicinal spice. Patchouli grounds everything with an earthy depth. The effect is tart, green, ultra-cool, and deeply complex — the abandoned circus arena, amplified.

Base Notes — Vetiver · Cedar · Sandalwood · Amber · Oud The dry-down is earthy, woody, and quietly commanding. Vetiver adds its signature smoky, earthy complexity. Cedar contributes a dry woodiness. Sandalwood brings a creamy, skin-close warmth. Amber radiates a golden depth. Oud appears as a nuance — present but not dominant — adding a slightly smoky, resinous darkness that gives the base its final, lingering mystery.
